Adventures   African Storytelling

The art of storytelling is an appealing and engaging Myths, folktales and legends play very important roles and achieved very distinct purposes in the lives of African people.

At the African Heritage Centre we use a series of stories written by World Muzik Makers. These engaging and enchanting stories were written for Citizenship and Multi Cultural education, they aim to provide answers to fundamental questions of the challenges of life. Myths, folktales and legends reinforce and reiterate moral values in young people and adults. These stories teach that it is wrong to steal, lie or be self centred or egotistical, they encourage kindness and generosity to others, especially to orphaned children, the poor and disabled. The tales encourage children to obey, help and respect their parents and other elders, to be careful in choosing a marriage partner, and important aspects of marriage.

In the story telling sessions we create a traditional African Cultural environment where everybody participates. The stories also help young people develop skills in practical ways, explore ways of managing behaviour and emotions.
