The African Heritage Centre exhibits materials that help people to appreciate and understand different cultures and traditions. Nothing beats the real thing! We have an extensive collection of genuine traditional artefacts, textiles and instruments that showcase the essence of African living. Artefacts include African stools, head rests, walking sticks, different types of earthenware (pots, dishes etc), textiles (from different cultures and worn in different ways by different people), gourds and traditional instruments.
The centre itself is one great Exhibition!
The Africa Today display captures every-day life in modern Africa - this is Africa shedding the poverty and famine stereotype! See towering gleaming sky-scrapers, to humble mud huts with pretty flowers, to urban youths with tribal marks wearing corn-rows. This is the new face of Africa!
Masked Africa - masks have long been a characteristic art form and central feature of African ceremonial and social life for over five thousand years. What is the semblance of masks and do they differ?
